MORE ABOUT SFMOMA: NOW PLAYING
Celebrate SFMOMA’s 75th Anniversary at these Thursday night happenings. SFMOMA: Now Playing invites artists to animate SFMOMA in unexpected ways — and audiences to see the museum in a different light. Partygoers will experience the atrium as a projection chamber, a hidden annex as a bar/lounge, and artists playing the architecture. The evenings also include hors d'oeuvres and cash bar.

7:00 p.m. Douglas Gordon’s Feature Film
Phyllis Wattis Theater
Douglas Gordon's Feature Film, a study of the hands, arms, and face of the Paris Opera's James Conlon as he conducts the orchestral score for Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo.

9:00 p.m. Laetita Sonami and Sue-C
Atrium
The collaborative work of Bay Area-based Laetitia Sonami and SUE-C focuses on the real-time creation of film-like live performances. Sonami's elbow-length "lady's glove" extends her gestures, allowing her to construct fleeting sonic architectures as she moves fingers, hand, and arm. Video artist SUE-C synthesizes cinema from photographs, drawings, models, and interactive lighting effects. Tonight's performance in the atrium is a mash-up of current work and Sheepwoman, their most recent live film inspired by work from Japanese author Haruki Murakami.

These images and sounds are echoed by Douglas Gordon's Feature Film, a study of the hands, arms, and face of the Paris Opera's James Conlon as he conducts the orchestral score for Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo. Blue Bottle Coffee Co. and Meatpaper magazine foreground Vertigo's San Francisco setting with a special menu on the rooftop.
